For more than two decades, I did what so many women do.
I showed up.
As a teacher. As a mother. As the dependable one. The helper. The caregiver. The woman who could always be counted on.
Like so many others, I became very good at taking care of everyone else while my own needs quietly slipped to the bottom of the list.
Then life brought everything to a sudden stop.
A life-threatening medical crisis changed everything. Multiple emergency surgeries forced me to step away from the classroom, from work, and from the life I had built. In an instant, I went from constantly doing to simply being.
At first, it felt like everything had been taken away.
Over time, I realized something else had been given.
Space.
Time to reflect.
Time to ask questions I had never slowed down long enough to consider.
What if success isn't about sacrificing yourself?
What if health isn't something to think about after you've lost it?
What if there was another way to live?
That season became the beginning of a completely different life.
